Wake up!

9/27/06

This generation’s boogie man is terrorism. Think about the fear that was put into people’s hearts and minds in the past. It was communism. The peak of that fear was in the ‘50’s with Joseph McCarthy and the finger pointing attempt at creating an atmosphere similar to the Nazi mindset during WW2 Germany.

Think of the parallels. Don’t criticize the government. Don’t question our dehumanizing disgusting behavior and methods. Keep an eye on your neighbors. Don’t believe the things reported in the foreign press, we’ll tell you the truth – believe us. What happened in the last gasp of communistic fight? A pointless war in Viet Namthat we didn’t win. When we left communism didn’t take over the world. It has gradually collapsed.

I’m not saying that terrorists didn’t attack our country, or that we shouldn’t be careful. I am saying we need to keep our focus on staying on the higher ground. Live the exemplary life and treat people right. As a country we need to stay ethical and beyond reproach. This is the only way to regain the ground we have lost over the past 5 years.

I won’t question the wisdom of invading Iraq. To many people it seemed like a good idea at the time. As a former soldier I respect and support the troops both at home and overseas. I think we should hunt down those responsible for the tragedies of 9/11. Wherever they are, whoever they are, abroad and here. Leaving Iraq is not going to convince everyone we are running scared, any more than leaving Viet Nam did. The best plans are well thought out and include conclusions and timelines.
