       Urban Legend

I had planned a story on the way Dr. Phil is a channel for the far right (far righteous, or maybe self-righteous) and how listening to him makes my stomach turn. Before anyone gives me back my own line about changing the channel, I was in a clinic waiting for results when I was subjected to Phil. No recourse really, except I did actually wait outside, so I wouldn't have to listen. Just from the sound of his voice, I think whatever point of view he would hold, I couldn't watch, just due to his whiney slurred drawl.

I am also continuously amazed that people are willing to air their dirty laundry on TV for just a few minutes of "fame." Admittedly I am somewhat of a private person, but there is no way I am going on any show to talk about my relationships, co-worker conflict, or whatever. It is degrading to people and I doubt anyone really gets resolution. This particular show had two sisters who ganged up on their other sister because she wasn't a good Christian. She was too loud, had too much fun, didn't act her age, etc, etc. Maybe just accept that is who she is, and who she chooses to be. ( To be honest, coming out of your bosses office with white icing on your lips claiming, "hey I got the raise!" might be a little over the top.)

The 'bad' sister stood her ground, and just said tough, this is me. Good for her. Life is too short to conform to other people's rules. Dr. Phil, of course, was on the side of the two good christians, chastising the third sister, and saying she needed to act her age and grow up. Gag.

It's a shame that even though most people in this country probably deep inside would enjoy living like the 'bad' sister, they are too afraid of what people would think to actually do it.  Or worse yet, they "do it" in private (whatever it might happen to be), and condone it in public. Hypocrites are worse than cowards or the self-righteous. People should be true to their convictions regardless of circumstance.

Oh, it ended up being on Phil anyway. Urban Legend will have to wait until another time
